5-day Danakil Depression tour with a visit to Lalibela

Day 1:
- Arrival in Mekele: Upon your arrival in Mekele, our representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. You will have some time to rest and prepare for the upcoming adventure.
- Briefing and Preparation: In the afternoon, our experienced guide will provide you with a detailed briefing about the tour. You will receive important information and have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Afterward, you can relax and enjoy the evening in Mekele.
Day 2:
- Drive to Hamed Ela: After breakfast, we will start our journey towards Hamed Ela, the gateway to the Danakil Depression. The drive will take approximately 4-5 hours, passing through the rugged landscapes of the Afar region.
- Dallol: Upon reaching Hamed Ela, we will visit the extraordinary Dallol, famous for its vibrant hot springs, salt formations, and geysers. You will have ample time to explore this unique geological wonder and capture stunning photographs.
- Lake Asale: Next, we will head to Lake Asale, a vast salt lake where the Afar people extract salt using traditional methods. You can witness the salt miners at work and even try your hand at the process if you wish.
- Overnight Camping: We will set up our camp near Hamed Ela, where you can enjoy a traditional Ethiopian dinner under the starry sky.
Day 3:
- Erta Ale Volcano: Today, we will embark on an early morning trek to Erta Ale, one of the world’s most active volcanoes. The hike will take around 3-4 hours, and you will be rewarded with a mesmerizing view of the lava lake inside the volcano’s crater.
- Sunset at Erta Ale: After spending some time at the volcano, we will descend and return to our camp. In the evening, we will hike back to Erta Ale to witness the captivating sunset over the lava lake, creating a truly unforgettable experience.
- Overnight Camping: We will spend another night camping near Hamed Ela, where you can relax and share stories around the campfire.
Day 4:
- Flight to Lalibela: After breakfast, we will transfer you to the airport for a short domestic flight to Lalibela, home to the famous rock-hewn churches. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel.
- Lalibela Churches: You will spend the day exploring the remarkable rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, a UNESCO World Heritage site. These ancient churches, carved out of solid rock, are a testament to the architectural and engineering skills of the time. You will have a chance to visit the most significant churches, including Bete Medhane Alem, Bete Giyorgis, and Bete Maryam.
- Overnight in Lalibela: You will spend the night in Lalibela, immersing yourself in the rich history and culture of this sacred town.
Day 5:
- Return to Mekele: After breakfast, we will transfer you to the airport for your flight back to Mekele. Upon arrival, you will have the rest of the day free to explore the city, visit local markets, or simply relax at your hotel.
- Departure: Our representative will transfer you to the airport for your departure, marking the end of your Danakil Depression tour with a visit to Lalibela.
